What is a charter school?

Charter schools are public schools of choice. They are tuition-free and financed the same way as other public schools. Governed locally by parents, citizens, and educators, charter schools are free to be innovative in their design and are highly accountable to the community. Charter school students are subject to the same standardized tests found in the Thompson School District. What is a Charter School?

Applications will be accepted for all grades kindergarten through 8th.

What is unique about NVCS?

  • Our Curriculum

  • Foreign language for all students – New Vision Charter School recognizes the importance of fluency in more than one language and that research has shown that it is much easier to gain fluency in a second language during the elementary years than in later years.

  • Character training – Every student will receive age-appropriate, non-religious character education. Major topics will include personal responsibility, accountability, respect for others, respect for the community, and citizenship.

How are charter schools funded?

Public charter schools are funded using the same per pupil funding as non-charter public schools within the school district.

Will we have to pay tuition?

New Vision Charter School is a tuition-free school of choice, however, students are still subject to the Student Material Fee for each school year.

Does NVCS have school uniforms?

New Vision Charter School students are not required to wear a school uniform, however, a dress code is enforced to preserve the integrity of the educational environment.

What are the school hours?

NVCS will operate on a longer school day to further expand learning opportunities than other Thompson District schools. The day will begin at K-4 at 7:30 am and end at 3:15 pm. The 5-8 will begin at 7:45 am and end at 3:45 pm.

Does NVCS offer athletic programs?

Yes! Athletics are available for Middle School students (grades 6-8). Programs offered include volleyball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, cross country, and track. Middle School Athletics

How can I help as a parent?

You can do a couple of things as a parent to get involved. There are many opportunities for parent involvement right now. We have several committees that need dedicated people to serve on them. How many students are in each class?

There will be approximately 22 students in each kindergarten class, 27 in grades 1-8. It is the goal of NVCS to maintain these class sizes.

How many kindergarten openings will you have for the 2024-2025 school year?

We have a maximum of 115 open seats to fill for full-day kindergarten. We do not have half-day kindergarten.

I applied last year and enrolled my child at New Vision Charter School. Do I need to apply again?

Once enrolled at NVCS, you do not need to apply again. Your student will remain enrolled until they go into high school. You will need to complete an Annual Family Check-in (AFC) every year. The AFC is available from March through September.

I applied last year and my child was on a wait list. Do I need to apply again?

Yes, Intent to Enroll forms must be submitted annually. Students' names are not retained for subsequent years.

I missed the lotteries, can I still submit an Intent to Enroll form?

Yes, you can submit an Intent to Enroll form and the student will be added to the bottom of the established waiting list.
