New Vision had an awesome showing at National History Day NoCo Regional competition at UNC! Twenty-one Nighthawks competed with papers or websites, and we have 12 students advancing to the state level! Mrs. Easton and Mrs. Byrd, NVCS NHS Sponsors, are so proud of these 7th and 8th graders! A special shout out to the 23 parents who drove, waited, cheered on their students, waited some more, bought cake pops and burritos, and encouraged their students to finish strong. Students have been working on their projects since January, and they honed their 21st century skills (writing, researching, analyzing, presenting, collaborating, creating with tech) enough to be the best in NoCo! Congratulations Nighthawks! See Nighthawks highlighted on these NHD sites: https://www.facebook.com/HistoryDayUNC/ and https://www.instagram.com/historydayunc/

Students who participated in the Water Education Colorado and MLK contests were rewarded with a field trip to CSU Spur Campus in Denver! We had a blast in the VR room, watching animal surgeries, seeing the horse therapy center, checking out the hydroponics facility, and creating a successful drainage system during a flash flood with the sand table. There is nothing like this in the nation- thank you CSU Spur! We had a blast.

The Kindergarten Princesses and Princes celebrated the end of our Kings and Queens unit! In this unit, we discussed the different members of a royal family and their responsibilities. We also read stories such as Cinderella, Snow White, and The Princess and the Pea! To celebrate we gathered for a royal tea party and enjoyed tea, popcorn, and shortbread! We completed our celebration with ballroom dancing... Such a fun day celebrating Kindergarten Royalty!

Friday, March 3 was NVCS Night at Eagles Hockey! The Nighthawk Anthem Choir did an awesome job on both anthems - Canadian and US, plus members of NVCS Rotary Interact Club and the Anthem Choir pitched in with Chuck a Puck. Money raised from tickets and Chuck a Puck will go to Foster Care of Larimer County and Helping Hands Monkey Helpers, the "charities of choice" as voted on by 7th graders in Service Learning Elective Class. Students prepared research-based presentations about their charities and presented their "pitch" to the class. Congratulations to all for a great turnout to benefit those in need, plus the Eagles won their game!!!

Today the New Vision community stepped into a time machine to meet some people who shaped American History! Second graders brought many important Americans to life at their very own Famous American Wax Museum. The students spent the past few weeks creating projects and biographies about these Americans. They even rehearsed lines to describe themselves and their contributions to our country!
